Chinese student receives DAAD Prize 2024
Once a year, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) awards the DAAD Prize, an award by the German Academic Exchange Service, to outstanding international students. In 2024, student Ke Fu from China, bachelor's degree programme in Business and Engineering, received the DAAD Prize. The award that comes with a prize money of 1,000 euros honours outstanding academic performance and societal commitment. The award is funded by the Federal Foreign Office. The scholarship certificate was handed over by Thomas Schmitt, deputy head of the International Office (HSIN), and Aylin Chaban, HSIN employee in charge of supervising international students.
Award winner Ke Fu already completed a bachelor’s degree in Economics in her home country. Her professional experience had taught her the impact engineering and technology can have on the business world, which inspired her to complete an engineering degree. Given Ke Fu’s background, the bachelor's degree programme Business and Engineering at THWS constituted the perfect combination of the two fields. She chose THWS because of its location in one of the main industrial centres for roller bearing production and because of the degree programme’s practice-orientation and extensive curriculum.
Ke Fu also acts as buddy at the Faculty of Business and Engineering and supports new students during activities like the orientation day for first-semester students: “When I first came to THWS, the buddy programme at my faculty was invaluable to me as it eased the transition and made me feel welcome. I wanted to return some of the help and thus support others. Becoming a buddy myself was the perfect opportunity.” Recently, she also volunteered during the ten-year anniversary of the TWIN programmes. Contributing to such an important event was a remarkable experience which enabled her to get in touch with other students, lecturers, and employees. “In future, I want to contribute even more to my faculty. I am also constantly looking for ways to get involved.”
